Male Leadership Academy Overview

The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners has a rich history of developing successful youth initiatives. In keeping with their mission to invest in the life experience of youth in the community, Montgomery County is embarking upon the creation of a male youth mentoring program. This new initiative continues to build upon the foundation of already flourishing county youth incentive programs by enhancing youth life experience via educational activities and career awareness. Through the power of constructive male mentorship, the Board of County Commissioners believe they can both enrich the lives of youth and maintain their commitment to excellence in Montgomery County by positively impacting generations to come. This will be accomplished by the initiative known as the Montgomery County Male Leadership Academy.

Under the charge of the Board of County Commissioners, the County Administrator appointed members of his Executive Team to serve on a newly created committee known as the Academy Leadership Executive Team. This team serves to provide oversight in launching the Montgomery County Male Leadership Academy pilot mentoring program. The Academy Leadership Executive Team gave special directive to one of its members, Director of Workforce Development, Marvene Mitchell, to further orchestrate the pilot program effort. While this pilot program seeks to specifically serve minority male youth ages 14-16 in the west and northwest quadrants of Dayton, it will also serve as a means of obtaining best practices for the future goal of providing a county-wide mentoring program for Montgomery County youth.
