YouthWorks - Summer Youth Employers

Welcome to the Youthworks employer page, hosted by the Montgomery Department of Jobs & Family Services!

Youthworks gives low-income young people a chance to learn, earn a paycheck and gain valuable work experience. During the summer of 2009, 2500 youth between the ages of 14 and 24 successfully worked at 835 job sites around Montgomery County. Those sites included a wide range of entry level jobs in insurance agencies, law firms, hospitals, day-care, government offices, recreation centers, and scores of other businesses and organizations.

For local employers, the news was even better! They were able to access these workers at no cost: the wages of the employees were set and paid for by the Department.

In 2010, we're excited to announce Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Summer Employment Program for low-income young adults between the ages of 18 and 24. Funded by TANF Formula Dollars, we'll help local employers create an additional 500 summer jobs, giving more people who want to work a unique opportunity to do so, while at the same time helping local employers during difficult times.

Employers who want to participate in the Youthworks program in 2010 will:

• have access to a diverse pool of part time employees thru August 31, 2010
• pay nothing for the wages of those employees
• provide a safe and appropriate work environment with adequate supervision for the employees
• have a case manager assigned to them to help work for successful outcomes for the employer and the employee
• help identify the employees who will work at their job site
• be able to terminate their involvement at any time
• give the next generation of Montgomery County workers the experience they need to help grow our economy
